I did not take this picture. It's a screenshot from a collection called "As It Was Give(n) To Me" by photographer Stacy Kranitz. It's a series documenting lives in the Appalachia region of the US. I thought the photo and the collection are both marvelous, and wanted to share.

ReplyDeleteThanks for the reminder of beauty and character of the people of the "Highs and Hollows". I took four week long trips through the spine of Appalachia during the early 70's - these were my people, not the "town folk" who wanted me to leave town as soon as possible because I didn't look like "a respectable white man" (they were the ones in the KKK robes). Memories of a seemingly simpler, yet strangely complicated, time. Yeah....
