Portraits on labour day

Our union headman in the factory

Today it is the first of may and that means, Dag van de arbeid, or in English Labour day. It is the highday of the year for the socialist unions in Belgium. It is about politics, rights and a lot of beer.

Here in Antwerp there is always a big parade, all fractions of the unions gather and there is a big parade in the centre of the city. Because Antwerp together with thr city of Ghent are the home of birth of the unions in the late 19th century. And the parade is , I think the biggest in the country.

If I am home, I like to go look at the parade and mix in. It is always a good photo opportunity for streetphotography or portraits.

This set will be about portraits.

Holding the flag was considered a honour back in the day. Now there are many flags.

Well it was a busy day and took quite a lot of photos. So I can fill a few more posts up.

  1. You caught their expressions very well and of course in black and white they stand out more.

  2. What she said - you can't really see any noise, even in the light box view

    1. A bit noise for portraits is not a bad thing. Makes them a bit soft
