The still shot is a classic. Great catch! The video was fun, and a little terrifying watching the swarm attack. When you hang the feeder, can you see the hummingbirds watching you, or do they come out of nowhere?
When it's empty, as it was last night, they buzz me - they are, at dawn and dusk, exceptionally anxious to fuel up and tolerate little delay in their feed. And they are noisy, too!
Thank you sir. That was 1/1000, ISO400, f4.8 from about 15' away with a 70-300mm @ 300mm (APS-C). As with most of these, it's patience and a bit of luck, at 10fps. Even though their wings can beat at 800-1000 times per minutes, they often slow down during certain behaviors, such as "stalling", as they were doing here.
Quite a spectacle!
