Purple Flowers in the Dark Woods
Daily Photo Challenge
Tuesday: Nature
While
at my in-laws home, my wife was helping with some paperwork. I decided
to go for a walk. Their home is surrounded by woods and I found these
purple flowers growing just at the edge of those woods. They may have
been planted as they almost seemed out of place. But there were still
beautiful, there.

Sun setting over the hill
Out on one of my evening walks, the sun was going down and I think some of the haze from the western wildfires still colored the sky. As the sunset neared, I hurried up the hill to try to catch the last bits of the day. I was rewarded with the final moment as the sun dipped behind the trees at the top of the hill. The streaming clouds and the cool breeze added to the feeling of the coming night.

Those are rhododendrons Joe. They are wild throughout the Piedmont and Appalachian region, as well as the Pacific Northwest, but are widely cultivated as well for ornamentals. They are the "big sibling" of azaleas. Mountain folk have traditionally made some wonderful free form furniture out of the beautiful wood.
ReplyDeleteAs John says on the flowers. The same type as featured in my recent Scotney post.
