Iron Butt 2023

On a recent Saturday a number of cars loaded with photographers set off in the blazing sun on the annual Iron Butt Rally organized by the RA PhotoClub.  We started in Ottawa and ended up at a pub in Smiths Falls.  Each car picked a different route so everything in between the start point and end point will be different.  Fun time.

Our first stop was at the Vimy Memorial Bridge.  One of my favourite things to shoot are white bridges in the midday sun 😛 so I had a good start.

Our next stop was at Watsons Mill in Manotick where the Rideau River flowed peacefully and many folks took advantage of the beautiful weather to enjoy the historic site.

Along our path of following the river we came across a tiny perfect 19th century family cemetery which was beautifully maintained.  The entire site could fit in my living room.  It was charming and it was great to see that great care is taken with it.

Our final destination was Smiths Fall where we enjoyed an excellent pub lunch overlooking the falls.

 Interesting clientele...

Then goodbye to lovely Smiths Falls - if you have good eyes you can catch a glimpse of the Bascule Bridge in the background.

  1. Lovely shots and what a fun trip it sounds to have been. My favorite would probably be the "locals". His face looks so familiar and if my memory was perfect I'd be able to say he is a twin brother of ......(a movie star).

  5. These are so good, and such a variety. I was drawn to the two shots of the rope with floats across the pond/river, especially the second one.
