Bull Machine and Xolo

I believe it is 5 years ago since the Giants from Royal de Luxe visited our town.
This year they came with 2 dogs, The Bull Machine ,a puppy from 800 kilos and his friend Xolo a Mexican nude dog.
The duo wander the streets of Antwerp for 3 days and attract a crowd from all over europe.

The sleep of the innocent.

A crowd was waiting to see them wake up.

Xolo was the first one out and as you can see there are quite some people needed to operate these giants.

Than the Bull Machine came out and everyone loves him, he looks gentle and is a slow walker, so we thought.

On the way there was a small competition, the famous 25meter sprint for dogs. And I must say the pooches could move.

I found it hard to find good spots to photograph. There were thousands of people along the streets and the streets in our city are not that big in the old centre.

The weather was not in our favour today and rain and wind were there to party. so we decided to make the walk short and not follow them to the end.
Maybe tommorow I go have another look in the morning.

  1. Hi Peter! Thanks for sharing. Amazing art. We would always associate such performances with Benelux, where people have open minds and freedom of expression rules. I do miss the Netherlands where I lived seven years.

    1. Sadly this freedom is under attack. So we have to stand up again to jeep it.

    2. Well said. Political correctness in Germany is in full swing. If you are not with us, you are a nazi. The situation is better in Poland, at least freedom of speech is still there.

  2. Where do these creatures originally come from? We once had them in Berlin. I think they fit Antwerpen better, though.

  4. These puppets are amazing! I had to look them up because I had not heard of Royal de Luxe. The amount of work that goes into creating these giants is unvelievable but more so is their street displays. Photo #15 with the bulldog drooling is just so captivating.
