The William Commanda Bridge (formerly known as the Prince of Wales Bridge) has recently been renovated from a decaying railway bridge crossing the Ottawa River from the city to Gatineau to a repurposed pedestrian/bicycle bridge. I had been on the bridge some years ago illegally when it still had its tracks and I was interested to see the new incarnation.
It spans the Ottawa River from the Ottawa side to Lemieux Island where there is a water treatment plant and then picks up on the other side of the island and continues to Gatineau. Of course, if you live in Gatineau you could say it goes the other way 😄.
This is another episode in my ongoing documentation of Ottawa and its myriad changes...

The old railway bed...
Very interesting, Abigail! It's nice that they're repurposing the bridge instead of tearing it down. I especially liked the last shot, with the colors and textures and nature overgrowing the tracks. By the way, why did they rename the bridge? Was that political?
ReplyDeleteI love those revitalization projects and that you're documenting them. #2 has a really classic b&w feel with great tones.
ReplyDeleteI don't have a favorite on this series because each and everyone of the shots grabbed my attention. The fact that they have repurposed the bridge really makes a lot of sense. So glad you are sharing your perspectives with us.
ReplyDeleteWonderful and interesting captures the first capture has good depth very cool
