How about a Sunday on one of the most remote islands of Vanuatu? Gaua (a.k.a. Santa Maria) is a joy in the midst of mighty South Pacific. Located in the northern part of the archipelago, Gaua offers nothing in the sense of mass tourism and everything if you exercise patience and open your heart for lovely locals. Here is the link to a short story: https://piotr.exposure.co/gaua-further-than-timbuktu
Lovely story, wonderfull photos. You just must love their hair.
ReplyDeleteHa ha ha 😀. I went through my pics from Vanuatu. True, most of the people have incredible hair. Did you notice that their facial features are quite different to the ones of black Africans? They also look different from Australian Aborigines. Melanesia is a fascinating and very enigmatic part of the world.

ReplyDelete😀 I just can’t help loving Vanuatu. Of all trips overseas that I have absolved during the last thirty years, three are the most life changing (yeah, this would be the right word): my first trip to Africa (Kenya, Tanzania and Burundi that prompted me to live and work there), my two-month Amtrak adventure (oh yes! We all know the USA but it is so underestimated when it comes tourism) and Vanuatu (fascinating cultural enigma, wonderful people and friends I lived with there).
DeleteLove the story and photos
ReplyDeleteThank you, Abigail. Truly, Vanuatu is a very special experience and it has a special place in my heart. Will post more.
DeleteGreat! Piotr, you have a gift for informal portraits.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Tom. Honestly, I do not know if I would be patient enough with studio portraiture.
