This is a crane fly - our "daddy long legs" have round, brown body and eight legs. They are spiders, and poisonous, too. Their fangs, however, are too small to bite humans. But, if you crush them, the really, really stink!
For a long time I thought they were called daddy long legs as well but it seems John knows them quite well. I really don't know the difference, I just know they are bugs and occasionally worth "shooting".
Any insect close up is worth shooting - they are all fascinating. Apparently, these are called "daddy long legs" in the UK. But our DLL is a true spider.
Great catch, Camellia! That's a perfect background for his color.
ReplyDeleteIn England he is called a "Daddy Longlegs". Do you use the same name for this little creature?
