It's part of a large statue of a rich guy in Nashville, circa 1907. The statue has a 4-sided base that's taller than I am. My subject here was carved on one side of the base.
I've learned that this sculpture is part of the base of a monument to a major Nashville businessman who was president of the Nashville, Chattanooga & St. Louis Railway. The guy in my shot seems to be a laborer who was workin' on the railroad. The locomotive he's holding doesn't look like "The General" from Civil War days, so I don't know what that's about. (Btw, I lived in Atlanta for 50 years and never got around to seeing the Civil War Museum in Kennesaw.)
The General was rebuilt several times and reconfigured from wood burning to coal. I got to the museum when I lived in Atlanta but it was so close to closing time I had to virtually run through it!☺️
That is neat! Where did you see this, Tom?
