I soooo agree with Nancy. As soon as I opened your post I said to myself "here we go". As in here we go trying to figure out what Peter has captured. Enlarged the photo and what I see is something I have probably seen before, looks somewhat familiar, but at the same time can't place it. I of course read the other geniuses 😉comments and...could not decide if piston or rocker arm covered your post. Guess I will need to be patient and wait for you answer.
I took this at a museum in NZ March, it was intended as a close up theme but that has changed so made it b&w instead. It is part of an old steam pump in the collection of the Auckland Museum of Transport and Technology. Those that have mentioned pistons and rockers are therefore pretty close.
You have this ability to shoot machine parts that makes me curious all the time .... So, is that a lock??? I am embarrassed by my guess ..
