The 75 year old Memphis-Arkansas Bridge (The I-55 Bridge) is funded for replacement, construction to begin in 2026 (we hope!). This was a shot from the grounds of the Metal Museum, the one-of-a-kind museum dedicated to ornamental metal work. They will be moving because the new bridge will have it's footprint right here. Reminds me I haven't been to the MM in a few years, so it's impetus for me to go again soon.

Remind me not to take that path when going to Florida.
ReplyDeleteDon't worry, your friendly travel guide will keep you updated. And, it probably won't start on time...now, if it collapsed, they'd have the new one up in no time!π€£

DeleteThe new one wont look as good as that one
ReplyDeleteThe artist's rendering shows a pretty spiffy design - much cleaner and, most importantly, stronger and saferπ
DeleteOut with the old. Good to have a record of what will be lost.
ReplyDeleteIt's served it's purpose well. But, when you look at the state of the infrastructure nationwide, we're lucky to be on the short list for replacement. A bridge failure of one that carries 80K vehicles a day, a great many of whom are trucks carrying vital goods, would be an economic disaster. And this bridge is not in good shape.π
