Tuesday- Nature

With the departure of the cicadas our yard ended up with tons of broken branches (even more when there were gusts of wind in the neighborhood). Someone mentioned that the presence of these broken branches were due to the weight of the cicadas and their eggs(??). Naturally, I had to take a photo of at least one branch.

If any of you have a "scientific" explanation for these dropped branches...do share๐Ÿ™‡๐Ÿป‍♀️

  1. Yep, cicadas lay their eggs in small slits in branches 1/4-1/2" in diameter. When the eggs hatch, the nymphs drop to the ground, burrow in and set their alarm clocks for __years. The eggs don't weigh much, but the damage to the branches can weaken them and make them susceptible to wind damage.๐Ÿ˜Š
