A moment of truth......I opened this post 3 times. And each time studied the photo and left. This time I figured I should make a comment, because after all, big mouth can leave words unsaid 😉😜. I can't decide if I like it or not. Something about the leaf pulls me in and then pushes me out. Not sure if it's the amount of detail/texture or the bleeding red, or.....Anyway, veni, vidi, but no vici.😄
That's what I like about caladium - the starkness and color contrast. Got them for the first time next year and found a perfect bright shade spot for it.
Maybe what's getting Camellia is that the red leaf looks like a big red spider is sitting on it. I like the in-your-face red leaf plus the interesting details in the green leaves. Also, the main green leaf and the red leaf create a nice motion from left to right.
I often just sit and look at this plant, especially in the early morning hours - it lights up in the shade and minimal light and without the green, I think it would be overwhelming.
The texture is not much different from many large leafed, semi-tropical plants. I think what you see is the color contrast and especially the veining in the white/partially white leaves.
Nice detail
ReplyDeleteThanks!
