The village of Monreal

We went this week to one of our favourite places in Germany. The Mosselle valley. Two times a year we go there to relax and have a taste of the good life. That involves quite some wine.

On the ride up there I planned a small stop in the small village of Monreal.
This place is very old , officially it was mentioned for the first time in 1229, some say more early..
For such a small place it has got two castles, in ruines now but you still can visit them.
In ancient time it was called  Mon Regalis what means Kings mountain.

The village is located in the vulcaneifel area and lies on the river Eltz.

For the moment their live about 800 people and the main income is tourism.
The craftmen houses are typical of the area.

There are some interesting hikes in the surrounding, wich I will have a look into next time we pass thee.

If you are ever in that part of the world, it is a must place to visit.
