Monday Fill the frame

This Thanksgiving cactus, over the years, became a Xmas cactus and has now, in it's dotage, transformed into a New Years cactus.

  1. I love the way you have displayed the flower....the tiny streak of green, the angle the cactus is laying and the softness of the colors all are very appealing. The only wonder I have is whether you intentionally brightened the top part of the flower? I ask because it looks like it has lost some of the details found in the rest of the flower.

    1. Thanks! This blossom stuck out just so it could be photographed. The lighting was very tricky - made a dozen exposures, using my mini led spots, and this was the best. Could have played around with off camera flash, but I was too lazy. I tried a local adjustment for the top but it created what appeared to be a halo...but wasn't, just the outer edge of the petal behind beginning to unfurl. Didn't like that. So, more tries as it begins to open now. Also a different lens - playing around with my 18-200 @200 + 36mm ext. tube at f22, 4 sec.😊

  3. Lovely softness you have created. The lighting is pretty good. I never used a 200mm with tubes only a 135mm onces?

    1. Thanks Peter - this was my 18-200 but I often use my 55-300 with tubes outdoors, especially for insects. The better stand off distance helps by not irritating the critters so much.
