There seems to have developed over the holiday period a disinclination to use our cameras, a disinclination shared by my friends. However interest in photography has not dropped just the inspiration to shoot. So to revive my flagging interest I decided to revisit the archives.
In 2007 I had a singer performing at the opera in Montpellier in southern France. While I was there I took the opportunity to make a day trip to the lovely city of Nîmes home to les Arènes de Nîmes. The Roman arena has been restored and is in use as a perfomance space to this day, 2,000 years after it was built. Half the size of the Colosseum in Rome it only holds 25,000 spectators. There are many cities in this world green with envy that a smallish city like Nîmes can have a space that size!
The images were taken in 2007, since then restoration and refurbishment has continue so now the facility no longer looks like a ruin in the process of renovation.
Very nice, looks worth a visit.
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures! The pre-restoration images give a sense of its age and size.
ReplyDeleteLovely photos, Abigail!
ReplyDeleteIt seems you suffer the same illness some of us have here. Getting in,spiration. Love these, did not know Nimes had a arena like that. As always your monochrome work is outstanding.
ReplyDeleteAwesome captures love the shadows
ReplyDeleteI am in agreement with everything Peter has mentioned. Since you are looking back at photos, I would love to see that self portrait you have from years back........you sitting in the shadows. I loved that photo and it inspired me to capture a similar one of myself, which is one of all time favorite photos as well.
