Wednesday - Design

I was walking in the city and I looked up at this building. I quickly took out my cell phone and shot the image. I was curious - what kind of birds were perching on the top of the building? Did I shot a once-in-a-lifetime unique image? Of course I was pleased with the photo.

Upon zooming the image, those are NOT birds  .... they are cement (?) like birds or some decoration. Perhaps it was done to scare away real birds from parking and dirtying the façade?

No idea and life continues ...

  1. The building is really attractive with those blue windows. The "birds" on top sure look like pidgeons but as you said, when zoomed in, they are not. Over here, fake owls are place on top of buildings to act as a bird deterent and every once in a while I get fooled into thinking that I might have something unique in my repertoire of clicks, only to find out the opposite.

  2. Cool Building the blue windows make it!! They do look like birds, Your probably right about the deterrent to keep other birds away, There is a building I know of called the Hult Center and they used fake owls, worked for a little while but wildlife is not stupid one day I saw a Pigeon sitting on top of the fake owl :-)

  3. It's a cool building, definitely photo-worthy. Like Tom said, fake owls don't work as a long-term solution to pigeons. Maybe the architect was trying to add a touch of nature to their concrete-and-glass creation? It also reminds me of gargoyles -- maybe add a Gothic touch to it?

    1. Thank you, Tom. No idea about adding a Gothic touch but I am leaning towards Peter's theory.

  4. A very appealing image. As said, the blue glass sets it off. On the 'birds', since the spacing looks very uniform I wonder if it is part of the structure of the tower that supports the 'pointy' bit.
