Sculptures in Singapore

This is a huge bronze mural in the central business district area, measuring over 45 meters and it continues on the right hand side of the building. (Human for size).

The artist - Kumari Nahappan. The work is entitled "Pembungaan" - meaning "blossoming" in Malay that celebrates the vitality of nature and its eternal cycles.

This bronze with patina sculpture entitled "The Meeting" was by sculptor Etienne (born 1952, France). It measured 3.5 x 2.4 x 1.3m.

Originally titled "La Rencontre" in French, "The Meeting" is a sculpture depicting conversations, sharing and exchange among neighbours, friends or even strangers.

The three figures, linked by one unique body in the artist’s signature style of incomplete anatomic parts, express the importance of human relationship built though constructive meetings.

A flight of birds cutting across the composition symbolises the beauty and liberty of their thoughts.

I think the title is "Family". Unfortunately I had misplaced my notes and unable to share more details about it. Once again, humans for size.

  1. That first one is pretty big, you wouldn't realise without the person in it.

  2. I agree with Peter....had I not seen the human in the photo the size would not have been that substantial. I really like #2 and what it symbolizes. #3 must be a family of basketball players 😉

  4. Great stuff! It's so good that you included people for scale. I'm impressed by all the artwork around the city.
