For Nancy Andrea D

 Here a couple of lotus with stem images...

I never edited or published this one - too busy and the stems added nothing in this case.

           This one has a bit more appeal but does well only because of the catch light on the stem.

                   This is more like the many of the compositions available without zooming in...

and the majority of the pond looks like this...

                                  so, images like this have much more appeal to me.

  1. The colors and textures of those blossoms are so beautiful that you hardly have to worry about composition. Just get them in focus and you're good to go! On number 3 I'd probably crop off the right side up through the yellow parts of the white flower. The pink blossom and the flower at lower left make a great combination.

    1. I only edited and posted the last two images - the next to last one on this site after blurring the periphery and highlighting the center and the last one on Mike Moats original group. The othera weren't nearly as good as many I had taken before. By the way, Mike has a new group just for flowers - the only thing is it's private and has a one time joining fee ($79 I think), but he will have webinars monthly and instructional videos and such and whatnot.

  3. Thank you so much for your attention, John. I really appreciate it. The photos are all very nice and here are my comments ...
    #1 - I would cropped out a little bit of the stem as I feel that the flowers are nearer to the frame;
    #2 - this one I prefer a little more stem as the negative space above doesn't do justice to the flower;
    #3, #4 and #5 - you are the expert as I like them very much.
    I apologised for being so longwinded in my comment and I really appreciate you taking your time out to help me see the different ways you shoot the flower photos.
    Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

    1. No apologies needed - I appreciateand welcome the questions. As I told Tom S., I never intended to use #1-3. #4 was previously posted here with softening on the fringes - you even remarked on it at the time. #5 was silightly edited and posted on another site.😊
