The naga, a mystical dragon, snakelike creature. That lives in the waters of Thailand. This creature comes in Hindu and Buddhist religion as a friend or a foe. It can protect or destroy. This snake or reptile goes way back in history and it seems that was an inspiration for the Chinese dragon.
In Thailand it has mostly a protective roll.
I have seen that they grow in popularity the last few years and you see many in temples and budhist parks.
This is a more classic take on it in old Khmer style.
When lord budha was meditating under the bodht tree after his enlightment. It started storming for about seven days.
Than Mucalinda came out of the earth and protected the budha. Also came four nagas from the four elements to coil around him and protect him.
The naga is very well has his place in Thai religion and is revered. People believe in some places it stil lives.Like in the Mekong river.
A very nice series. My favorites are #6 and #8.
