This is a frame filled with blue-tinged snow. On the only
single day of sunshine in weeks, the reflection of the recent snow hurt my eyes
with brightness. Suddenly I felt the blue. I was actually aware of a feeling of
blueness. Confused, I took a photo of the feeling. Only later with research did
I understand that yes, the blue light was actually reflecting back at me
because the yellow and red aspects were being absorbed by the snow. I have lots
of snow photos from that day that are all bluish. Apparently even Auto White
Balance would not have corrected properly. I read that I should adjust the
temperature in post-production to somewhere between 7-10,000 degrees Kelvin to
compensate for the blue. Interesting! The more I learn, the more I see I have
so much more to learn!

They looked like wispy clouds, and then I read the description cool capture
ReplyDeleteI love this one! When you cut out the context we see the snow in a new way, a mini-landscape.
ReplyDeleteNicely done! And you're right about the blues - I had that problem with my Alaska cruise exposures. Even adjusting in post often does not work so well.
ReplyDeleteAs Tom & Jovi say this could easily be clouds
