This is a peony. I certainly will post progressive images. The ants are gathering the exudate (sweet sap) and, in a perfect example of mutualism, protect the plant from aphids. This year should be pretty nice - they didn't bloom at all last year, so I exposed their crown and that should do the trick. They really need to be repotted (over 7 years old), but that was kind of out of the question this past fall/winter.
👍🏻👍🏻
ReplyDeleteCool detailed plant and the ants migrating on it
ReplyDeleteAny day now!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing it pop. Please do inform us of the name of this plant. Speaking for myself, I just don't know!
